I’m going to answer some of the question you guys asked on my blog!
This time about trouble with footing before taking off a backside spin!
I’m unstable on the toe edge before taking off a back side 720.
Windup to prepare for the spin is not easy too.
I don’t have same issue with spinning 540.
How can I approach to the lip with stable balance on the toe edge for spinning 720?
Please tell me.
From your observation, as unstable on the toe edge and windup is not easy before takeoff, I can predict that you have very weak base of support while on the toe edge.
In other word, you are standing on the toe edge with unnatural position.
When we are standing natural as a human, our shoulders, hips, knees and toes are all aligned.
All muscles are in a certain position and status to work best with this standing position.
So while you are standing in this position, you are at the most stable balance.
Most snowboarder who is throwing a backside 720, they open their shoulders forward to prepare for the spin.
It is effective to create a spin force with arms and facing forward avoid taking off too early in many cases.
However if you twist your body forward too much and feel unstable before takeoff, this must be corrected.
We use rotational movement all the time to change the direction, to spin your body, and so on.
For example, when you make a toe side turn, you put your front shoulder over your front toe.
But if you rotate your shoulders to opposite direction, this time if your chest is facing forward (toward the nose of your board) while starting a toe side turn, it will be hard to get into the toe side turn.
Because, it’s hard to keep your balance on the toe edge in this circumstance with this posture.
Now let’s think about it with posture before taking off a backside spin.
Windup might need to gain enough spin for spinning 720.
But at same time we want strong base while twisting our body.
So how can we add a windup without losing our base?
Here are some tips to stabilize your base instantly while on the toe edge with windup.
